Voices of Change: Speaking Out Against Racism
We are at a crucial moment in our history, and the moment demands that we speak out against racism, because silence is complicity!
Although our primary focus is on sexual violence, we understand social injustice, systemic institutional biases and the root causes of most any form of violence are all intertwined. We know Black women are more likely to experience sexual assault than white, LatanX or Asian women, and are much less likely to report their assault to law enforcement or seek services because of institutional bias. So, it seems only logical to amplify the voices of POC and their allies by providing a platform so they can be heard.
This is why we are hosting the Voices of Change Poetry and Spoken Word event. The theme is speaking out against racism and the goal is to provide space for people of color and their allies to share their gift of words, as well as to inspire those who remain silent to speak out and end their complicity.
So, we that you join us for this Zoom virtual event on Thursday, July 23, 2020. Space is limited, so you will need to register to receive the Zoom login information.
We invite poets and spoken words artists who would like to share their work at the Voices of Change Poetry and Spoke Word event to message us or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Although we understand this is a highly emotional topic, we do want the event to be relatively family friendly. So we ask that you limit any curse words to those that can be heard on network television. Since this event will also be live streamed on Facebook, we also ask that you refrain from using hate speech. We do not want the Facebook AI shutting down the live steam.
