- I'm retired military and my wife is a native island girl. We were living in Missouri and have been dreaming about moving to the Azores to retire. We finally made the leap and moved. It took us two years and a lot of work but it was worth it. Long story short, I quite my job in the United States, sold our home, packed and shipped our entire household goods, and landed on Terceira to live a peaceful, relaxing life.
