Racism in Germany - how bad is it?

Publicado en Foro de Alemania

I just read a story on Spiegel online which shocked me: According to a new study, more than 14% of German teenagers can be considered as "anti-foreigners", while more than 5% fall into the category of the righ extreme with Nazi-tendencies.

Surprisingly, the bad reputation of foreigners seems to be higher in those regions with little foreigners (so those regions where people don't even know what they talk about!!!).

The original article is here: http://www.spiegel.de/politik/deutschland/0,1518,613844,00.h

To me - this is just another example of human ignorance, but for a foreigners living in Germany, these numbers are pretty scary!

What are your opinions and personal experiences with the way Germans see foreigners?

    @GN
    Yes exactly.
To play pool and hang out together and there are many such places,
But all the ones I ever saw have mostly only Turkish people hanging out but no Germans.
I am sure the Germans are welcome but appear to be a no now show.
However there may be other ones that are mixed but again I haven’t seen that.

I agree that the truth is not like in the movies. I believe whoever wins writes some truth and then adds up a little bit to spice it up. The worse your enemy is, the bigger hero you become.

I didn't think that before, but the more I pay attention, the more I realize we are lied to all the time. Hello Iraq. No reason to think that this is something new. And of course, it is the winners that write the history, not the losers.

so you go there and whoever is there you sit with them? because if you already know them you could go anywhere so I guess it's to meet new people, Germans or Turks.

And maybe they have drinks and things from both places?

    Interesting, thanks

    @ YT,
And why should the Allies have bombed Labor camps?
To cause more misery and death for the prisoners?

Call me a conspiracy theorist if you will, but c'mon, the allies airforce could pin point bunkers and artillery warehouses, but missed all the labour camps? Even my wife's grandma (German) knew where one of the camps was located. And no, she didn't work for the nazis.

Real wars were never so one sided like in hollywood movies or stories told on History channel.

    @ YT,
You are reciting some convenient cliff notes and no offense but also appear to subscribe to some more than simplistic and a little one sided Alex Jones’s rhetoric.
I like Alex and he is an important voice but you can’t take everything he says as gospel.

In the 1930s every 4th immigrant to the US was German bringing with them Nazi doctrine which at the time pulled Germany out of a previously devastating depression right on the heals of America’s own depression.

Below is link to a brilliant Documentary about the Nazi movement in America which also is the history of the boundaries of American Freedom because no other European import was ever such a threat to our liberties and free speech.
Even during the ongoing holocaust in Europe a well known American Nazi leader was defended in court by a top notch American Jewish lawyer.
Because according to our constitution freedom of expression is for all...even the most wicked.
    .
It is well over an hr long, very thorough on fact and quite fascinating documentary.
    Enjoy.:))

as far as holocaust goes, I know that is what's taught in schools and how History channel is playing almost every week on this subject to demonize the Germans, and as much as I don't like the German mentality and so on, just to be fair, the American establishments (IBM, for example) were also aiding the Hitler's regime by supplying the database to register all the Jews who got sent to concentration camps, etc., and Prescott Bush, that is, the grandpa Bush I believe, partially supported Hitler's operation by supplying them with artillery. and Jews who fled to the US were trying to get the truth out by the American publications, but they all refused to cover it. and towards the end of the war, everyone pretended to be so surprised by what they discovered in all over Europe. but certain Americans and Brits, especially the ones in military and higher up in government knew exactly what was going on, but they let the Germans take care of the Jews, and show up towards the end to look like heroes.

I don't think it was so black and white as you described. I mean, 6 million Jews were exterminated, and NO ONE outside Europe honestly knew what was going on? it was orchestrated all over Europe, and the allies knew exactly where the concentration camps were, and which rail roads were leading to the camps, but those facilities were never targeted. antisemitism wasn't limited to Europe, Middle East and Northern Africa.

I never heard of that before, but history was never my thing anyway.

Interesting, I'll try to get some time to watch the documentary, now I'm really curious.

    @ G.N.
"what other 2 genocides are you talking about?"

The Nambian Genocide perpetrated by Germany in the quest for Lebensraum between 1904 and 1907 in German South-West Africa.
In this Genocide, Germany started the practice of sending the cut of heads of the Nambian and Herero people to German universities to study their features.
Studying and measuring their facial futures to establishing guidelines as to which humans should have a right to exist and which don’t.
The results and standards of these studies a few years later where applied to the Jewish people, the gypsies and everybody else who’s facial features could not conform to the newly established German norm …. Condemning them to extermination as unworthy of life.
Below is link to a fairly good documentary about his…. but there is more to it if.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXgIhSjWGhE

The Armenian Genocide of 1915 with Turkey as a partner serving a common geopolitical interest.
Though Germany has tried for many years to pin this on Turkey as the sole perpetrator, investigations and records show that all the logistic and central planning came from Berlin and was financed by Deutsche Bank.
The rail roads and rails cars to transport the Armenian people to their death was supplied by Deutsche Bahn. ( the national German train system) …still operating today as DB.
Moreover and most telling, many of the German officials at the time involved in orchestrating this later also became members of Hitler’s cabinet.
Thus my reference to the blue print.
