Landing in Leipzig

Dear all,
I may be landing in Leipzig soon. So to inform better my decision, I would appreciate any hints on the city. Anything info ranging from shopping to politics would be quite helpful.
As background, I'm a scientist and would be working for a prestigious institute. Zero German, but I'm good at languages.

  Hello all,
  are you still in Leipzig. I will be moving there next month after 4 years in Ireland and would love to build up an international circle of friends (or any circle of friends really ;o)) I'd be happy to get in contact with you.
