This is the fifth episode of the Stereotypes Course about Chinese being workaholics. Most foreigners believe that Chinese are all workaholics. But is it really like that?
The Chinese law stipulates that the normal business hours should not be more than 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week, There is still overtime, but more and more people are taking the initiative to enjoy life. Look, During public holidays, tourist attractions are all crowded with people, while in daily life, they do sports, walk dogs etc.
The “996”, a very popular topic in China lately, refers to some employees being required to work from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for six days a week. Not only most ordinary people but also China Daily and Jack Ma believe that this is illegal and such working schedule should not be promoted. This also shows Chinese have changed their way of thinking about work. Indeed, the Chinese are hardworking, but they also enjoy life.
Are Chinese workaholics? Of course not.
