Are Germans rude??

Postitatud Saksamaa foorum

Many of my foreign friends who live in Germany complain that Germans are very rude - or at least unfriendly.

Obviously, as a German myself I don't really experience us that way. But I would like your opinion: Are we really as cold as some people say????

    German, German, German...

Of course a German invented "Wetten, dass"*
Many thanks for the enjoyable hours
We're the friendliest customers in this world
We're modest - we have money
The very best in any sport
The taxes here set a world record
    Visit Germany and stay here
It's this kind of visitor we wait for
Anyone who likes it can live here
We're the friendliest people in this world

    German, German...

Just one little thing is out of whack
And that is, Schumacher** doesn't drive a Mercedes

    Refrain:
All that is Germany - all that is us
You won't find that anywhere else - only here only here
All that is Germany - all that is us
    We live and die here

    German, German...

Many people are arrogant about Germany
And some think it's cool to be an a--hole
There are some who like to complain about Kanaken [foreigners]
And travel to Thailand every year to f---
We love our cars more than our women
Because we can trust German cars
God kissed the earth just once
Right on the spot where Germany is now
We're the best everywhere - naturally also in bed
And we're especially nice to dogs and cats

    All that is Germany...

If we try to realize and understand that the people around you are kostas, peter, anna, etc and not german, greek, japanese etc everything will become easier. If i am an idiot, racist, etc doesn't mean every other greek person is. And of course the opposite.
The only thing i can say is go wherever you want to go and there try to find people that suits you.

every other person in different countries have a way of expressing!!! likewise Asian are friendly in their own way and English people, American have their own way of showing gratitude!! My friend have been to a business tour in France and Germany!!! He found that Germans are very nice and comforting people inspite of French!!!

goog grief... whats going on here?

May I offer my point of view as well, it might not settle this angry conversation, but might add a moderate inside view on german social behavior.

We ain´t rude, we are insecure. Watch a german on vacation, or ask a dutch or british person, if we arrive anywhere, first thing we tend to do is to secure a private space. Securing a sunlounger at the pool or even digging a foxholes on dutch beaches (i am not making this up, ask a dutch person about the first thing germans do when they arrieve on dutch shores, even I did it when I was a kid, it seemed just natural to me...) we even do it at home, germans really like... LOVE their fences and hedges. Neighbours passionatly hate each other for generations when a tree grows from one neighbours property over the border, to their neighbours property (I thank god there are so strict gunlaws in germany, and I am not making this up again German courtrooms are crowded with neighbours sueing each other)
It is a german state of mind, "this is my space, and anybody who wants to get into it has to be approved".

So why do we smile so rarely and don´t think please and thank you ain´t necessary in most situations? When sombody smiles always, how do I know he´s honest right now or if somebody is overwhelmingly kind and friendly on our first meeting how does he know I´m a friend? But if somebody, who never smiles or thanks anybody but thanks and smiles at me, for something, he probably means it in all honesty.
(I just try to explain to you, the way I think, most germans are thinking. I´m not like that. I smile, be kind, friendly and polite as much as possible, promise that we will do something together when we meet again and all, it´s a good way to stay out of trouble. Of course I have to adopt diffrent, new kinds of view everytime I meet somebody, even those I don´t like, but as soon as that person is out of my sight I forget all about him and proceed with my life caring abou me, but I might be a bad person anyway.)

Granted some german employer are plain racists when they don´t hire friendly open-minded foreigners who passionatly love their german coworkers with all their big and small personal and coultural based shortcomings.

By the way, I often run into problems with other germans, particularly with those who feel lonely, they misinterpret my always friendly behavior as real interrest in them and start bugging me (when they are female it might even somtimes be mutual, but not lasting)

So if you have it over with those rude germans, meet me, we could get to a bar or what not would be awsome.

Germany needs more people like you.

I hope I am not naive that I do not see this and for this reason I what to open my eyes more to see what you all said. I do not want that somebody feel unwell in Germany or somewhere else. I cannot pledge something, but I would speak with my friends and maybe when everybody speaks about it, it would be better for all humans.
Please no comment, I can not heal the world and one step is better than nothing. I know that is not a lot but I am not Ghandi and feel not like I can do a big demonstration.

    @Cathrin Miller
You’re venturing off topic here but I’ll oblige.
List of countries taking part in the intervention as a coalition.

    Belgium
    Canada
    Denmark
    Egypt
    France
    Greece
    Italy
    Norway
    Qatar
    Saudi Arabia
    Spain
    Turkey
    UAE
    United Kingdom
    United States
    Kuwait
    Palestinian Authority
    Qatar
    Jordan
    Bahrain
    United Arab Emirates
    Lebanon
    Oman
    Saudi Arabia
    Syria
    Tunisia
    Iraq
    Comoros
    Algeria
    Sudan
    Egypt
    Yemen
    Mauritania
    Morocco

Libya was one step before impending genocide when Gaddafi announced to the international community that he will “Cleanse his population and that there will be no mercy"
This UN resolution was considered and passed after the international community was asked/ invited to intervene and prevent him from making good on that threat.
IMHO a grave mistake of Germany to stand down and turn a blind eye.

    @Oliver .H
Sorry Oliver but your comment or rather angry rant makes no sense at all.
Way out in left field, no pun intended.

I do not like this word mainstream culture.

And sorry but I think we are the Kings and Queens of the whole world. I think the Germans feel more often a shame because of the second world war. Look now, they do not want to go in a war. Who wants to go in the war? France, America,....
