hey everyone, my name is paroma basu. i just moved to lausanne with my husband and our dog from new delhi, india.
we're excited to meet new people and generally have a great time! I was happy to find this community of other newcomers.
is there a place and time that some of you get together? Also, could any of you recommend good french classes and/or yoga classes in lausanne?

Hi Ashleigh, nice to hear from you. I hadn't been on this site for a long time so very lucky i caught your message!
In general, Switzerland is complete dog heaven. Dogs can accompany you to restaurants, bars, on trains, buses....pretty much anywhere! Because of this, finding a place that welcomed dogs was not particularly challenging for us. On the other hand, we didn't really go to see an apartment unless it advertised that animals were welcome, and frankly, we didn't see that many apartments because we pretty much liked the first place we saw. Still, there are soooo many dogs here I would be really surprised if you struggle to find a dog-friendly apartment.
Bringing our lab over from India was a different story. It was an insane amount of paperwork--probably took us about seven months to get through it--and was very expensive as well. But I think the situation might be different in your case because you are coming in from the States while we came in from a 'Third World' country by Swiss standards, so had to prove she didn't have rabies, etc. What made it all worth it for us of course is that our dog could be with us and that Switz. does not require any type of quarantine.

Hi Paroma,
It looks like you've now been in Switzerland for over a year and I hope you're enjoying it. We are planning on moving there this summer with 2 dogs and I had a couple of questions I was hoping you could help me with. Was it easy to find housing that welcomed dogs? Were there any other challenges you saw with bringing a dog all the way from India? Thanks so much for your thoughts.
