Presbybop to offer Jazz Vespers at First Baptist Church in America Saturday December 9 4 pm Free
The First Baptist Church in America is delighted to present an afternoon "Jazz Vespers" gift of music to the community for the Advent, Christmas, and Hanukah season. This musical offering will take place in the acoustically splendid Auditorium of the Church's Meeting House, a National Register of Historic Places landmark that was built between 1774 and 1775. The event is free and open to the public.
Bill Carter and Presbybop are the best-known musicians playing "sacred jazz" in the United States. Formed in 1993 by pianist Bill Carter, a Presbyterian minister, this consort of New York-based professionals has toured the country extensively in presenting concerts and jazz worship services. In addition to Bill Carter, the primary composer for the group, the core members of the ensemble include saxophonist Mike Carbone, trumpeter Jeff Stockham (who also plays Flugelhorn and French Horn), bassist Tony Marino, and drummer Ron Vincent. The collective resumes of the band members read like a "Who's Who" in the jazz world.
