Giocosa Chamber Music’s latest program, Quartet with a Twist, will be presented in South Harwich and Chatham on February 10 and 11. Giocosa's directors, Heather Goodchild Wade (violin) and Elizabeth Schultze (cello) will be joined by Concertmaster of the New Bedford Symphony Jesse Holstein, the Cape Symphony’s Principal Violist Danielle Farina, and Cape Symphony cellist Eleanor Blake. The program will feature works that switch up the instrumentation of the traditional string quartet. While string quartets are almost always written for two violins, viola and cello, Anton Arensky’s String Quartet #2 is scored for one violin, viola and two cellos. “It’s a very interesting idea”, says Wade. “By reducing the treble voices by half and instead doubling the bass, Arensky creates a whole new set of colors to work with."

The second piece on the program is the infamous String Quintet in C major by Franz Schubert. This work, scored for a traditional string quartet with an additional cello, is one of the most beloved pieces in all of the chamber music repertoire. Wade describes it as a work with enormous heart. “It just speaks to people. This piece is so special - it grabs your soul right from the beginning and it doesn’t let go.”

Concerts take place on February 10 at 3 pm at the South Harwich Meetinghouse, and on February 11 at 3 pm at the First Congregational Church of Chatham. More information about ticketing can be found on the Giocosa Chamber Music website, www.giocosachambermusic.com.
