Victoria Festival of Authors

The Victoria Festival of Authors runs Oct. 11-15, 2023. With a focus on BC authors, the festival is bringing together thirty-five emerging and established writers of poetry and prose for five days of readings and conversation. For the first time there is sliding scale pricing, with a free option for all virtual events and the five in-person events taking place at Langham Court Theatre.

Each evening there are events at Langham Court Theatre that will be livestreamed. There is a free option for in-person and virtual viewing for all of these:

October 11: A craft-based panel of authors reading not-yet-published work with Sonnet L'Abbé, Tim Lilburn, Susan Sanford Blades and Joseph Kakwinokanasum.

October 12: Our Indigenous-curated panel featuring Michelle Poirier Brown, Helen Knott, Katlia Lafferty and Angela Sterrit. This promises to be a deep, and thoughtful conversation about advocacy and activism.

October 13: Featuring three award-winning novelists: Darrel McLeod, Jennifer Manual and Alissa York, each with new novels set in rural BC.

October 14: Our annual poetry night with Lorna Crozier, Marie Metaphor (Victoria's Poet Laureate) and Renée Sarojini Saklikar. This is a panel about building community through poetry.

October 15: A dose of humour to end the week. Ian and Will Ferguson, with Jack Knox. Rumour is there's no reading for this event, rather a staged mystery with audience participation.
