HI, myself and partner are currently in the process of selling our home in the UK with the view to settle in The Azores. Our plans are to either rent for a few months or volunteer for work away until we find a suitable property with enough land to produce organic fruit and vegetables. We would really appreciate any practical information relating to health insurance, rentals and costs, residency application, buying a car, registering for local taxes, learning the language etc. We have visited some of the islands but haven't decided yet which we would like to make our home. Any information welcome.

I moved here 2 years ago and opened an Irish pub..I brought an investor from Saudi Arabia..were now opening a boutique hotel in Vila Franca do Campo but we're also getting EU funding for this project...they also fund guesthouses and tourist accomodation..if you need info contact me anytime..best regards

My wife and I are also thinking of moving to the Azores, having been there a couple of times now. We've decided to buy a property first, rent it out as a holiday home and then slowly transition our lives to Sao Miguel.
Kevin, would you know any recommended contractor as the house we were looking to buy needed some work? Not sure if you also need an architect for refurbishments on the island but if you can recommend one that would also help? How is the expat community in Sao Miguel? Is it centralized in Ponta Delgada or are there are areas?
Essentially anything more detailed around moving your life and opening a business on the island would be of great help!Regards,

Sorry I haven't replied any sooner. Our house sale is getting closer to completion and we still haven't made any formal plans. We know we want to start a new life and think the islands of the Azores suits the cleaner lifestyle we aspire to in beautiful surroundings, but we are unsure that we pocess the right skills necessary to have a sustainable life. Any practical information that you can offer will be most welcome in relation to the subjects highlighted in my initial forum posting.
