Michael T. Gengler, author of "We Can Do It, A Community Takes on the Challenge of School Desegregation, will speak about his recent book on school desegregation in Alachua County.

"We Can Do It" tells the story of school desegregation in Alachua County, Florida, the legal conflict (Alachua County is one of two Florida counties whose desegregation lawsuits went all the way to the US Supreme Court), the division within the local African American community over supporting the county's black high schools, and the response of teachers, students and the larger community to desegregation. It is the only published book-length study of school desegregation in Florida.
