The community of Bentley had the imminant threat of their neighbourhood being exploited for shale gas. Everyone worked together and they managed to prevent fracking.

Carol Gibson will share her experience of moving out of the frying pan of Chapeltown near Ecclesfield where a company plans to process the waste water from fracking sites, and into the fire, at Marsh Lane, Eckington - where a Ineos has applied for planning permission to drill within 500m of Carol's home down 2,400m for fracking.
Hear Carol's experiences of 'living with the threat of Fracking', and how this could effect us all.

A film from 'The Bentley Valley' in Australia, how they prevented fracking.

'The Bentley Effect' - Synopsis: When the shale gas industry staked a claim on the Northern Rivers shire of Australia, alarm bells rang out. People from all walks of life organised against the invasion. Despite the enormous public opposition, the gas industry and the State Government were determined to frack. Bentley saw thousands of protestors on the site to face 850 riot police, ordered in to break up the protest.
The Bentley Effect documents the struggle. This story shows how strategic action and peaceful protest from a committed community can overcome industrial might and political short-sightedness. It celebrates the non-violent ‘Eureka Stockade’ of our time and chronicles one of the fastest growing social movements we have ever witnessed.
