Matthew 25 Hand Up for Housing

The Matthew 25 Hand Up for Housing assistance walk is a fundraiser that increases awareness and support for housing insecurities experienced by families and youth in the Omaha community. "Matthew 25" is an initiative of the Presbyterian Church (USA) that encourages congregations to live out the scripture... "I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it for me." Matthew 25:40. This initiative of the Presbyterian Church calls us to actively engage in the world around us, to seek justice, to act compassionately and boldly, and to serve people who are hungry, oppressed, imprisoned or poor.

The purpose of the Hand Up for Housing fundraiser is to support safe and stable housing for the vulnerable in our community. 100% of the money raised will support Heartland Family Service, Open Door Mission-Lydia House and Youth Emergency Services (YES). The donations will go to help families and youth around Omaha find stable and secure housing. This fundraiser has partnered with Business, Non-profits and Faith based organizations to ensure that the October 3rd event fulfills the mission of support to the agencies with housing expertise and day to day service and involvement.

The October 3 walk begins at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church Omaha, 216 S. 34th Street, with agency presentations starting at 12:40 p.m. Walkers and pets of all ages are welcome. Just register at fpcomaha.org/matthew25 for either a 1 mile or 3.4 mile walk through the midtown community. The website provides all walk details. Crossing guards and signage will help walkers stay on the route. All walkers that make a donation to the Hand Up for Housing Fundraiser will receive a T-shirt, snack and water. The 1 mile walk takes about 20 minutes and the 3.4 walk a little over an hour.
