Treasure Coast Theatre holds auditions for "Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune

Treasure Coast Theatre will hold auditions for this touching comedy drama. Two middle-aged co-workers at a NYC diners have very different ideas about what their one night together means. She believes it's a one-night stand. He is convinced it's love and tries to convince her to take a chance.

Performance dates are Friday-Sunday, February 10-26, 2023. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 8pm and Sunday matinee performance begin at 2pm.

Characters

JOHNNY – Male 40S-early 50s
A short order cook in good physical condition. He's a charismatic talker. He jokes a fair amount, and it becomes clear as more is revealed about him that, although he does truly feel the grandiose things he expresses, his emotional vulnerability is in itself a mask over his fear of living a boring and unimpressive life. Educated through his second year of college, Johnny defies working class stereotypes in his joy for intelligence, quoting Shakespeare and referencing literary theory as easily as he uses an impressive vocabulary.

FRANKIE – female late 30s-40S.
A waitress who is overweight, frumpy and is emotionally defined by her perceived unattractiveness. She is humorous but dark, and can be "hard to reach" when sensitive topics come up, but when she does develop trust, she knows how to be honest about her past and her feelings. Frankie is brassy in life but when her body is given attention in the way that Johnny gives it, romantic, sensational, and amplified beyond the average lover, she becomes almost uncomfortably demure. Her defensive exterior is less based in self-confidence and more based in need to survive. Real intensity and devotion makes her uneasy, which is why Johnny's particular brand of courtship puts her in the spotlight in a way that takes her awhile to adjust to.
