Calendar Girls: The musical tells the true story of Yorkshire's own CALENDAR GIRLS - a group of ordinary ladies who achieved something extraordinary. Christchurch Music Society (CMS) bring this musical to the Congress Theatre as part of their 50th anniversary programme. As a highly regarded family friendly amateur society they bring excitement and enthusiasm to the production. The Society are thrilled to bring their interpretation of Calendar Girls to you - it's truly an inspirational show.

CMS will be supporting the National Association of Blood Bikes during the week of the performance and will be fundraising throughout the week. This is a charity that provides such an important service, literally saves lives and has a very special place in the hearts of all the members of the society.

The story of the Calendar Girls began in 1998 when John Baker, husband of Angela Baker, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. John sadly passed away after just a few months of treatment, but in the months following their loss, Angela and her friends set about creating the now infamous calendar as something for Angela to focus on and, also, to prove John wrong - he said they'd never do it! Through the sale of calendars, the group aimed to raise enough to buy a new sofa for the hospital where John was treated and were amazed when the calendar attracted international press attention.

The musical is the brainchild of composer and lyricist Gary Barlow and writer Tim Firth and their close collaboration brings the story and the music together seamlessly.
