Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra (CCCO), the Cape’s professional collaborative orchestra, presents the concert “Aurora,” on Sunday, February 19, 3 pm, at Pilgrim Congregational Church.

Award-winning concert pianist Ana Glig joins CCCO in Bach's “Concerto in D minor,” and the orchestra’s string section take a trip to outer space with music by Xenakis, William Grant Still, and Dmitri Shostakovich. “There is something to be said about pairing music from the 1700’s with the radical sounds of the 20th century, all using the same instruments that have existed for hundreds of years,” shares CCCO music director Matthew Scinto. “I’m excited to welcome back my colleague Ana Glig who will dazzle our audience with the beauty of Bach. She performs consistently around Cape Cod and throughout the United States. I am fortunate to have the pleasure to host her to perform with the orchestra.” Other works on CCCO’s program include a string piece by African-American composer William Grant Still, Iannis Xenakis’ captivating and quite striking “Aurora,” and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony. The compositions represent the diverse directions of composers from around the world since departing from the revolutionary music of J.S. Bach. Shostakovich’s music has particular meaning - as the yearlong milestone approaches since the latest Ukraine-Russia conflict began - a composer at constant odds with the Soviets throughout his professional life.
