Tour de France Wine Tasting - 4 Week Course
The sheer diversity of styles available, along with the much vaunted concepts such as 'terrior' and slightly baffling wine labelling, mean that many of us feel intimidated or unsure when picking up a bottle of French wine. But nonetheless, us Brits continue our historic love/hate affair with the Gaillic nation and their wines. The prestige of Chablis, Meursault, St Emilion, Chateauneuf du Pape and a whole host of other French wines, means that this is the land which perhaps, more than any other, is associated with so-called 'wine snobs'.
Well, here at Yorkshire Wine School we are not interested in wine snobbery- we are only interested in discovering great tasting wines and learning how to identify them for ourselves. So our tour of France will aim to leave aside the technical jargon by setting the wines in the context of what they mean for the flavours in the glass: teaching you to identify what kind of wine you enjoy and then giving you the confidence to set about picking them for yourself. This is a practical guide to French wines, for people who are keen to learn about wine in a straightforward, no-nonsense way: by tasting it for themselves!
Week 1: Bordeaux (St. Emilion, Margaux, Sauternes and others)
Week 2: Loire and Alsace (Muscadet, Sancerre, Pinot Gris and others)
