Nature writing book club: Dancing with bees

Royal Geographical Society

1 Kensington Gore, London, Greater London SW7 2AR, UK Map

Join us as we discuss Brigit Strawbridge Howard's passionate dive into the world of bees of all stripes.

The evening will be split into two halves. During the first half, much like a traditional book club, attendees will share their thoughts about the book and discuss its themes in small groups. There will then be a short break for refreshments before we hear from the author, Brigit Strawbridge Howard, and another expert in the field, and have a chance to ask them any bee-related questions.

The book club will start at 7.00pm. Wine and soft drinks will be served from 6.30pm, so attendees are very welcome to come along from 6.30pm onwards and converse with fellow readers.

Please read the book beforehand and bring your thoughts to share with the group (but if you’re feeling shy there will be no pressure to speak and you’re very welcome to just come along and listen).

Our panel
Brigit Strawbridge Howard is a bee advocate, wildlife gardener and naturalist. She writes, speaks, and campaigns to raise awareness of the importance of native wild bees and other pollinating insects. Well known to many through her role in the TV series, It’s Not Easy Being Green, she now lives in North Dorset with her husband, Rob.

Olivia Edward (chair) is a nature journalist. She worked as Reviews Editor/Staff Writer/Digital Editor at Geographical magazine for more than six years, and continues to review for them on a regular basis. She likes nothing more than having discussions about nature and coming across interesting ideas that allow her to view the world in a new light.

About the book
Brigit Strawbridge Howard was shocked the day she realised she knew more about the French Revolution than she did about her native trees. And birds. And wildflowers. And bees. The thought stopped her quite literally in her tracks. But that day was also the start of a journey, one filled with silver birches and hairy-footed flower bees, skylarks, and rosebay willow herb, and the joy that comes wit
