British composer, journalist, and lecturer Robert Hugill, returns to Conway Hall for a free Pre-Concert Talk, exploring the invention and evolution of the saxophone.

When it was invented by Adolphe Saxe, the saxophone was only one of a number of instruments created to correct the problems inherent in the instrumentation of the orchestra. Perceived as classical in the 19th century, the instrument’s 20th century history has enabled players to cross boundaries and genres.

This free event will be followed by the evening's Sunday Concert, in which the Arcis Saxophone Quartet perform 'American Dreams' - a musical exploration of the American way of life, ranging from prairie landscapes, to the swinging Southern states, and the city that never sleeps.
