Quartett Giocosa presents The Bucket List

On November 20th Quartett Giocosa returns to the stage with a concert of string quartets from their list of favorites. The program, presented at 7:30 at the newly renovated First Congregational Church of Chatham, will feature Brahms’ String Quartet #1 and Grieg’s String Quartet #1.
These two favorites were chosen simply because after an 18 month hiatus, the quartet wanted to celebrate a return with music that speaks volumes, both to the performers and the audience. The Brahms and Grieg quartets are staples of the quartet repertoire. Johannes Brahms, a notoriously careful and thoughtful composer, did not publish his first quartet until the age of 40, having worked on the piece for many years before it’s publication. It is truly a masterwork in which the years of effort are evident. Edvard Grieg composed only one complete string quartet, but with its publication he gifted the world with a piece of music unique in its Nordic color, texture, and rhythmic vitality. The musicians of Quartett Giocosa, Heather Goodchild Wade, violin, Irina Fainkichen, violin, Irina Naryshkova, viola, and Elizabeth Schultze, ‘cello, are delighted to return to the concert hall with this not-to-be-missed program of quartet greats.
