About Our Program:
Make history interesting and fun! Join Beth Daly on December 27, as she reviews highlights of Historic Fredericksburg Foundation Incorporated's/(HFFI)'s highly successful holiday Candlelight Tours of the past half century, and this year's Holiday Open House at their headquarters, the historic Fielding Lewis Store, 1200 Caroline Street.
This month's presentation, complete with beautiful photographs, shows how HFFI effectively advocates for preservation while celebrating the holiday season. For over 50 years, HFFI sponsored a holiday candlelight tour, even during COVID. Pivoting to accommodate the times, HFFI orchestrated the 2020 and 2021 tours virtually by smartphone. Building on HFFI's Historic Marker program, which has over 300 markers, they recruited over 130 homeowners in Fredericksburg to decorate the exteriors of their homes for the month of December. (The richness of Fredericksburg's history is evidenced by more than a dozen buildings from the 1700's, and hundreds of buildings from the 1800 and 1900's, each, which are noted on the current Historic Marker Map.) Pedestrians and drivers could follow the map and hear a short history and description of each home.
