Concert for Ukraine

The Ukrainian Cultural Association of Ohio (UCAO) and First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ will host a benefit concert for Ukraine on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. The event will be held at the First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio. The emcee will be Ret. U.S. Army Brigadier General Mark Arnold. This is the second of the series Concerts for Ukraine hosted by UCAO.
Featured performers are the Magpie Consort, the Ukrainian Opera Ensemble, bandurist Maksym Mahlay, violinist Arkadiy Gips, the Chamber Music Connection, the Columbus Children's Choir, and the Ukrainian Children's Choir. The concert will highlight the music of Ukrainian composers from Bortniansky to Hulak-Artemovsky, from Lysenko and Kytastiy to Kos-Anatolsky and Skoryk. The artists will perform this concert in Ukrainian to honor Ukrainian heritage and culture. The concert will close with Lysenko's Prayer for Ukraine, conducted by Dr Stephen Caracciolo.
"This concert embodies the reason why Ukraine is fighting so fiercely for its right to exist," said Natalia Lebedin, President of UCAO. "Ukrainian culture and music is so rich, so beautiful, and for centuries, so well-hidden by its oppressor... we are so proud to be able to share this music with Columbus, Ohio. Ukraine will overcome every war, famine, nuclear disaster... every possible form of genocide. Ukraine's song will be eternal."
All proceeds will benefit The Frontline Medical Ukraine, a fund created in 2022 by General Arnold, a nationally recognized expert on the war in Ukraine. It seeks to raise $2.2 million to train medics in remote, frontline locations to care for injured Ukrainian soldiers. To show their awareness and support of Ukraine in the ongoing war, all the artists are donating their talents, which means 100% of all money raised this evening will go to Frontline Medical Ukraine.
