Jjswims Community Fundraiser

Our local Chapter is conducting a fundraising event on 12/14/19 - JJSwims Community Fundraiser. The initiative of our fundraiser is to provide swim lesson grants to local non-profit organizations in the Greater Huntsville Area whose focus is to address the needs of under-resourced children. The recipients will be the Boys and Girls Club of North Alabama, Girls Inc., Sea Dragons Swim Team, Village of Promise, and Jack and Jill of America Foundation. Our chapter has set a goal to raise $75,000. We plan to obtain the funds by soliciting donations from individuals and businesses across the country. If we are able to reach our goal, 750 children will learn water safety and learn how to swim. So many children are unfamiliar with swim safety and cannot swim. Therefore, they are at high risk for swimming accidents and drowning. Two years ago, our national organization implemented this initiative (JJSwims) after one of our very own children tragically died in a drowning accident.

Over 350 children die from unintentional drownings each summer.
About one in five people who die from drowning are children ages 14 and younger.
Drowning is the #1 cause of accidental death for children ages 1-4.
Swimming pool drowning deaths for under-resourced children ages 5-19 are 5.5 times higher than that of children with access to resources.
For under-resourced children ages 10-12, the swimming death rate is a staggering 10 times higher than the rate for children with access to resources.

JJSwims will be a day of fun for the entire community, all in support of an important cause. Community participation is welcome. On the day of the event, each team will have five minutes to swim as many complete laps as possible.
