FAMILY DRAMA DRAWS RAVE REVIEWS, "Stunning" "Magnificent" "Brilliant!"

Set in the Whistler ski cabins of brilliant lawyer, Judge Kelly Sainte-Patrick, and her lawyer husband James Brown. Young love blooms for their daughter, Erin, and her activist boyfriend. When a sudden death raises the morality of jailing anti-pipeline protesters, family relationships and professional reputations are threatened. There are two possible outcomes for this play and the audience gets to decide witch ending gets played on stage!

One week hold-over at The Firehall Arts Centre. This time with a great new scene! and the added bonus of nightly post-show talk-back sessions with the performers, playwright, invited artists and activists, lawyers and hopefully even Judges! We encourage all to speak freely and respect the opinions of others.

News of the play hit Canada's National Observer, "The B.C. Court concluded... that significant errors were made by B.C. Supreme Court Justice Shelley Fitzpatrick. Among the errors, she was found to have convicted an Indigenous elder, who was performing a pipe ceremony, without proper consideration of the facts. This case has inspired a play, "The Judge's Daughter," which invites audiences to consider the actions of the Canadian judiciary in the treatment of Indigenous land defenders and climate protectors."

"In writing the script, Beam was inspired by Indigenous elders, in particular Jim Leyden... Fitzpatrick convicted him of criminal contempt in 2021 and sentenced him to 45 days in jail. This came after he had held a traditional pipe ceremony in 2020 near the Burnaby Terminal..." - Charlie Smith, Pancouver

REVIEWS:
COLIN THOMAS: ...Thematic tension to keep things interesting [and] characters' relationships have sufficient nuance to keep that level bubbling... My response to this piece was invigoration. It's great... it's great...it's great..."
