Expat live in Shenzhen and work in Hong Kong?

게시된 위치 쉔젠 공개토론

Greetings,

I am considering moving to Shenzhen, Hong Kong or Macau. it looks like it is very expensive to live in Hong Kong and Macau and I was wondering if it is feasible to live on mainland china and commute a few times a week to the islands.

my questions are :
is it difficult to cross the boarder weekly for a foreigner?
what language should I learn?
are there any major drawbacks to living in Shenzhen vs. HK?
are there any things I have not thought of that will pose an issue?

I have traveled extensively world wide, but have not done much travel in china, so I am a bit inexperienced here.

Regards,

Paul

what language should I learn? whatever your workplace needs. HK speaks Cantonese, but the rest of China is all learning Mandarin. It's a hard choice. Many people in HK can understand Mandarin, but they don't speak it to each other. I picked Mandarin.

are there any major drawbacks to living in Shenzhen vs. HK? look into your tax liability.

are there any things I have not thought of that will pose an issue? depending on what type of visa you have, you might not be allowed to live in Shenzhen. A HK work visa is not good for Shenzhen.

yeah, CNY/RMB (chinese yuan/renminbi) in Shenzhen and HKD (Hong Kong Dollar) in Hong Kong.

Paul, the tax rate is different in the two, so make sure you understand the implications of where you work vs live (HK tax is much lower).

i think it is much cheaper to live in Shenzhen than HK.
Take it easy here Shenzhen is a open city. lots of people outside of Shenzhen live well here. i am a real estate, if you need to rent a apartment in shekou, shenzhen, you can contact me.
but you need to stay shenzhen for more than 1 year otherwise the landlord won't wiling to rent her or his house out.

    hallo,
It is easy to cross the boarder if you have the visa, if you dont have, you can apply it in HK. not difficult.
in shenzhen, you can learn Mainlarine wl be more easy.
shenzhen is a open city and people are open mind, you wl feel free to live..but i like Hongkong also.
the living cost in shenzhen is lower ofcourse.
if you have other question, my pleasure to help.

    Rgds!
    Linda
