The Journey: Civil Rights

The Journey: Civil Rights celebrates African-American music and culture, highlighting gospel, jazz, and works from the Civil Rights Movement. The Journey: Civil Rights will explore prominent figures in the movement, including Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and Rosa Parks, and pivotal events such as the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the March on Washington.

The Journey: Civil Rights will feature performances by the Columbus Cultural Orchestra, Columbus Dance Theatre, Milton Ruffin Gospel Chorale, and Tapestry Performing Arts Company. Steeped in African-American history and the struggle for equal rights, yet universal in its emotional and musical appeal, this unique program presents a rich body of work passed down through generations and communities, and deeply relevant to our present day. The Journey: Civil Rights aims to share the African-American experience with audiences of all ages, races, religions, and backgrounds.
