Wine Time at the Colony, August 21st

For the region's artisan winemakers, August marks the season when new wines are finally in the bottle and ready for release. Visitors can experience dozens of new wines along with traditional favorites from seventeen wineries, at the Wine Time at the Colony, a wine-tasting festival on August 21. Located on the Penn's Colony grounds, minutes north of Pittsburgh at 365 Saxonburg Blvd., Saxonburg, PA. Hours are from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
New Rieslings, fruit blends splashed with watermelon wine, and Sangria are some of the new offerings. An unexpected new flavor is the Pinot Colada from Bushy Run Winery. This is an off dry Pinot Grigio infused with coconut and lime wine. The result is just enough sweetness from the coconut to add a delicate note. It blends with the light lime and the Pinot has a refreshing new twist on taste.
Neon Swing X-perience will perform beginning at 1:30 p.m. The 7-member band defines its style as Pittsburgh's Swing with Sting. Food purveyors range from Cherish Creamery goat cheeses to fresh brick oven pizza and offer a selection of light menu food and small batch items for sale. Fine artists and craftsmen offer handmade works in a select juried marketplace. Admission is $25 and includes a souvenir wine glass. Designated driver admission is $5.
