American stereotypes in Canada

Geplaatst in Toronto forum

It seems that wherever I go, I'm always treated like I am a baby or like I'm stupid, just because I'm American.

To me, Canadian and American cultures are not too different, but when I was travelling abroad with some Canadian friends of mine, the people we met were incredibly nice to my friends but kind of ignored me.

Not all Americans are unintelligent, loud, and obnoxious, so why am I treated as if I am?

I think we tend to mix American foreign policy with the American people and unfairly assume all the Americans are arrogant and ignorant. I definitely don't agree with their foreign policy, but of all the Americans I have met in person have been in general, very civilized normal folks.

I wouldn't go as far as to say American and Canadian cultures are not too different though because they are different, and Canadians are proud of it just as much as the Americans are of theirs.
