Great Autumn Trip To The Basque Country (November 9 – 11)

Enchanted woods and waterfalls; sea and mountains; villages and towns; history and vanguard; food, txacolí and cider

ITINERARY:

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9: MADRID – HAYEDO DE MONTE SANTIAGO – NERVIÓN WATERFALL - BILBAO
Departure at 8:30 from Glorieta de Atocha (next to the Ministry of Agriculture) towards the Hayedo de Monte Santiago, where we will go on a beautiful and easy trekking route among autumn colours followed by a visit to where the Nervión River begins, and where the biggest waterfall in the Spanish Peninsula is located. An exhilarating landscape filled with history as it was between the Kingdom of Castile and the Duchy of Vasconia where the Castilian began. Arrival in Bilbao, with a panoramic view of the city, tapas & pintxos dinner and accommodation.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 10: BILBAO – GUERNICA – OMA – GAZTELUGATXE – ZARAUZ – SAN SEBASTIÁN – BILBAO
Breakfast. Visit to most of the emblematic locations in the Basque Country: Guernica, historical city in its heart; the famous Oma Woods, depicted by Ibarrola; San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, a small church perched over the sea with a spectacular view; Zarauz (including wine tasting and lunch in a beautiful txakoli wine cellar) and San Sebastian, where we shall walk around its lively streets. After eating the famous San Sebastián pintxos, we shall return to Bilbao.

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 11: BILBAO - GUECHO - ARRIGORRIAGA – MADRID
Breakfast. Free time to visit Bilbao: Guggenheim (entrance optional), Suspension Bridge (Puente Colgante) declared World Heritage and a walk along the seafront in Guecho. Lunch in a typical cider cellar in Arrigorriaga. Back to Madrid.
