HELP!!!! relocating to Hungary

Dodane na Budapeszt forum

Hi, I am relocating to Budapest in a years time. I am trying to get prepared but am finding it really hard to imagine finding employment. I am a Philosophy graduate from the UK and have a CELTA certificate and am currently studying for my TEFL long distance learning award. As of yet, the only teaching experience I have is from my actual training courses. I will be attending a Hungarian Language and cultural class when I arrive which I hope will help with my chances of finding a job. I have experience in hotel management, retail and working with people with learning difficulties. Can anyone guide me in the right direction please? Any advice would be most appreciated as I am beginning to panic!!!!! Many Thanks :)

Hi! If you're interested in teaching English or being a nanny in Budapest, please write to: s_z_k_y(at)yahoo.com. Our company connects native English teachers with private students, groups, and parents who need a nanny. Thanks, AB

    HI Faye,

We haven't gone yet (sadly!) but we are getting ready. The best advice I have had so far is to try and find British or American based companies for employment. I am hoping to find work in an infant or junior school and am doing volunteer work in the UK first to get the experience. How about you, when do you leave and what are your plans? It's great to talk to people on here who are in the same boat or who already live in Budapest and can give you tips. I keep checking this regularly but can also recommend some websites: budapestagent.com is quite good and also EnglishLanguageJobs.com
I am also looking at Hungarian Language courses and have been pointed in the direction of InterClub and Babylon Nyelvstudio, near Astoria. I hope this helps :)

    Regards,

    Jill

Hi Jillian, just saw your post and was wondering how you are getting on living in Budapest and if you have any advice for an English person relocating there? I share your distaste of life in England and can't wait to get to Budapest and try a continental style of living.

In this case I think you can manage it with your partner's support. but anyway keep your expectations low for better, and you won't be disappointed.

    Hello Jillian,

Well I guess if your partner is hungarian that makes it a slightly bit easier...if you may face problems finding a job at least you'll have support. I do understand why you like Hungary, I absolutely love Budapest of all places. It is my home town and I find it invigorating, beautiful and fun. Especially the rich culture, just love being home. I don't live in Budapest, I live in Ireland, and I moved here when I was 21, so never really had a proper job at home, therefore I will not be able to help you with the working life query..

Anyways, wish you the very best and hope you'll find everything you're looking for.....K

    Hi,

Thankyou to you both for replying. Well first of all my partner is Hungarian so we want to try living there for a while. Second of all, I do not like the way of life in England. I know it will be hard to find a job but I am willing to take the risk for new experiences and a new culture. I love eastern europe, especially Hungary! I would be interested to know both of your experiences living and working in Hungary??

    Kind Regards,

    Jillian :)

yes, if you have connections or prearranged job. thats fine. but otherwise, as kristina said, it might not be easy for you to find a job.

    Hi Jillian,

May I ask why you wanna relocate to Hungary? Most hungarians are desperate to immigrate to the west (plenty in the UK and Ireland etc) , as the jobs are extremely scarce at home. The country itself is lovely, don't missunderstand me, but to find employment will not be easy...I hope you'll have plenty of savings for the rainy day...And I wish you good luck!

K (a hungarian who's been living abroad for a long long time!)
