Board Game Night

Get gaming with like-minded people. We have a selection of board games to play if you want to try something new or you can bring your own.

Every last Thursday of the month, the Institute of Digital Games at the University of Malta is opening its doors to the public for an informal event where we play board games and socialize. Attendees can play one of the many board games available at the Institute, but are also invited to bring their own and introduce them to new players. Attendees must bring their own snacks and drinks. The event starts at 19:00 and will go on until 22:00, depending on attendance. The next event is happening on the 24th of November. Why board games?

For many people, board games refer to classics such as Monopoly, Cluedo, or even Jenga. However, board games have an immense variety, from creativity games such as Dixit to deeply strategic ones such as Powergrid. As all players gather around the table, board games are a perfect way to make new friends and socialize; many board games actively encourage that, with collaborative games where players try to save the world from disease outbreaks in Pandemic or more free-form collaborative storytelling games such as Once Upon a Time. Board games can also require intense thought and planning, in strategic games such as Brass or cunning and charisma in bluffing games such as Bang. Not only are there board games for any age and any audience, but the board game industry is rapidly expanding with new studios, new ideas and new types of games every year.
