Is there anywhere I can take courses to learn Arabic

Poslané v Fórum Kuvajt

I have been here for a few months and would like to take courses in Arabic. I know of the Aware Center, but there schedule for introductory classes, conflict with my schedule. I live in the Jabryia area. Thanks

Hey...Don't inhale in my name....Otherwise I might not sleep well tonight :)
    Wasta means: some reference.
e.g: If you want a job in a big company and if that company hires only with "Wasta" (may be a kuwait or other guy inside company) then if you dont have "Wasta" you will not be able to get the job. In this case we say that the guy is a "Wasta" (reference)....:)
Iqama means work permit to stay in kuwait.
    Yalla : "Oh Come On"

Just read this post, well I just pick up words here and there Vijay. Shukran, I have to say I am a pretty good learner. My reason for coming to Kuwait in the first place was to learn about the culture, work was second. I have to say I made a pretty great decision. So far it's working out well!

Shukran Ahmad, on your fine observation on me being an addict. I have to say I agree with you. :o) I will inhale one in your name tonight...LOL

So what do Wasta, Iqama and Yalla mean? I have heard the term Yalla, but just didn't know exactly what they meant.

Anyone interested in learning arabic will learn here these few words before he learns anything else.
    "Khallas", "Wasta", "Iqama", "Yalla" etc..

    :)

    @Tania
    Yes you are addicted :)

Tania, did you just use " kalas ". how did u pick it up. many south asians here pick words
like wasta for influence, kalas for finish, iqama for visa. bcoz they have some similarities with hindi, urdu, bangla etc.. But i didn't expect an american get influenced by the local language. Good learner !!!!

Ahmad I was thinking the same thing after I signed off. " How did we go from classes to shisha", hmmmm. It could have been me, I love the stuff, did it last night and will probably go again tonight. Ugghhh! I sound like an addict. :o)

What a conversion from Arabic learning to shisha....:)
I also have tried shisha only once but then never tried again because the taste is good but I think it is more harmful. BTW: I smoke :)

It is funny isn't it? I was againts even trying it for about three months and then I did. lol, I think the draw is definately the flavors. Thank God, after I leave here, Shisha is Kalas for me.

I've tried it and agree that I don't think it's good to put in your lungs. Funny how people that never smoked before when they come to Kuwait take it up. Cigarettes and Shisha alike. Not sure that's a good thing.
