This concert effortlessly combines the timeless music of the Baroque era with contemporary compositions to make a magnificent musical mosaic.

This concert effortlessly combines the old with the new into a magnificent musical mosaic. The exquisite and timeless music of the Baroque era is blended with the beautifully delicate string quartet Mishima by famed contemporary composer Philip Glass in this engaging, thoughtful, and entertaining program.

We open with Bach's ambitiously scored Brandenburg Concerto no. 3. Bach used an unusually wide range of instruments in these concertos. This is possibly because during the Baroque Era, "concerto" was simply used to describe a group of musicians playing together in a concert, slightly different than the concerto we know today.

The rest of the concert features contemporary pieces from Philip Glass that weave through compositions by Vivaldi, who is considered to be the greatest Baroque composer.

Featuring 10 string players from the orchestra along with our resident keyboardist, Brennan Szafron, this one-hour concert will be sure to delight audiences of all ages! Join us for drinks and light hors d'oeuvres before the concert during our "Happy Hour Reception" in the lobby.

All Espresso Series Performances include a social hour before the performance featuring complementary beer, wine, and light hors d'oeuvres.
