Our church, St. Simon in Ludington has been involved with the School of the Infant Jesus in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, for 27 years. As the recent news reports indicate, the people in Port-au-Prince are living with multiple armed groups all vying for control of neighborhoods. The government is not able to help and the police are out-gunned.

But there are areas with less danger, even in Port-au-Prince, where teachers can provide a sense of normalcy and hope for the future. The School of the Infant Jesus in the Cite Militaire neighborhood of Port-au-Prince is one of those places. They have welcomed teachers and students from two other schools to the relative calm of their complex. At this point, there are over 1100 students packed into their buildings and overflow tent classrooms.

St Simon Parish is running a Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction on April 27 from 5 - 7 pm. The meal includes sides, drink and dessert for $12. It will be at the school gym at 700 E Bryant. All proceeds will be sent to the School of the Infant Jesus in Haiti. They need money for student meals and to relieve classroom overcrowding.
