Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge - Discovery Center

After a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Friends of Brazoria Wildlife Refuges is again hosting its annual open house in and around the Discovery Center at Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge (BNWR), December 26 through January 2, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
This year's family-friendly focus is on birds, with docents available inside and outside the Discovery Center, but will also include a variety of activities and displays related to the flora and fauna of the refuge. Featured are:
. Reptile encounter
. Animal pelts and skulls
. Butterflies
. Owl pellet dissection
. Origami "birding"
The Big Slough Recreation Area at BNWR offers many opportunities to view and photograph wildlife, walk the trails, and drive or bike the auto tour loop that features freshwater and saltmarsh habitats that attract a variety of wildlife.
This is the last of the open houses for fall and winter 2021 at various Mid-coast Refuge Complex refuges and units. The annual Migration Celebration and several Refuge Saturdays open houses are planned for spring 2022. For updates see refugefriends.org or www.facebook.com/FOBWR/. All events were designed with social distancing in mind and are hosted by the Texas Mid-coast Refuge Complex and underwritten by Friends of Brazoria Wildlife Refuges. Note that U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service mandates masks when visiting indoor facilities.
