Winter is coming, and the long nights are cold and dark (and full of terrors). So, what better way to pass the time than reading an 800-odd page doorstopper?

November's book choice is Eleanor Catton's prize-winning beast of a novel, The Luminaries, which the NYT described as, 'a true achievement. Catton has built a lively parody of a 19th-century novel, and in so doing created a novel for the 21st, something utterly new.'
