Civic Park Pops! A Free Concert in the Park
Desert Overture, Phoenix's Premier LGBT and Ally Wind Symphony, is partnering with the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department to host Civic Park Pops! on Sunday, October 2 at 4:00 p.m. This FREE concert will take place at Civic Space Park at 424 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85004, located in downtown. Music will include selections from the hit musical, Encanto, the television show, Family Guy, the Looney Tunes soundtrack, as well as classic artists such as Glenn Miller.
"Our performances always take us to all kinds of unexpected places," said Scott Helms, Desert Overture Band Director. "This concert will be no different and highly entertaining."
Desert Overture, with its more than 50 musicians, was formed in 2010 and remains a hidden cultural gem in the Valley of the Sun. The concert band is an active member of the Lesbian Gay Band Association (LGBA), which has grown to 37 members, including international bands. Many Desert Overture members played instruments in high school and college and now enjoy producing quality music, along with friends in once-a-week rehearsals.
