A new public art exhibition is being installed along the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail in Carlisle and Westford this month as part of The Umbrella Arts Center's Go Out Doors – Neighbors project.

Funded by the Friends of the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail and Foundation for Metrowest, the exhibition features upcycled, artistically decorated doors placed on the BFRT as it travels through the neighboring towns and into Concord and beyond.

Originally inspired by the En Plein Air door exhibit on NYC’s High Line, the exhibition builds on The Umbrella's summer 2020 Go Out Doors exhibition in West Concord, reinstalling works by artists Caroline Provost, Rebecca Tuck, Sophy Tuttle, Karla Collins Eck in new areas, along with fresh commissions by BARD and Jen Fuchel.

Featuring whimsical imagery celebrating nature, our senses and outdoor activity – from wildlife, flora, and fantasy creatures to joggers, dog walkers and dance – Go Out Doors has been expanding as regional public art campaign promoting healthy outdoors exercise, environmental appreciation, and inter-town tourism throughout, and now as we re-emerge from, the pandemic.

Thematically similar installations of doors are being scattered as surprising waypoints of delight along biking and walking trails, business districts and cultural attractions in Arlington, Lexington, Newton, Medford, Groton, and other sites regionwide.

More background, wayfinding, photos, information about the artists and more may be found at http://TheUmbrellaArts.org/Doors.
