Plein Air Pawtucket

Plein Air Pawtucket, a one-of-a-kind art event, is coming to Pawtucket September 10-12. The event will allow enthusiasts to explore the work of 12 talented artists as they work en plein air along a 1.25 mile walking tour through the city over the weekend. Plein air painting leaves the four walls of the studio behind, allowing the artist to experience painting and drawing in the open air while incorporating the ever-changing natural light, color and movement into their work.

"The goal is to capture the spirit and essence of Historic Pawtucket through the technique of plein air painting," said Nick Paciorek, Pawtucket artist and the event's creator. "Pawtucket offers such a rich source of inspiration for painters and this event offers a chance for people to enjoy the outdoors, watch the artists work, and see the city through the lens of the artist. Sites they will be painting include the Pawtucket Falls, Slater Mill, the library, the armory, and Blackstone River views."

Plein Air Pawtucket is one of the many events happening during the popular Pawtucket Arts Festival running from September
10th - 19th. Anthony Ambrosino, Director of the Pawtucket Arts Festival, said "With the uncertainty of Covid-19 and given the picturesque backdrop of the blackstone valley, we had some great reasons to continue keeping our events outside in the open air of warm September afternoons."

As plans are finalized, the artists and the 1.25 mile route will be announced. The resulting artwork will be available for sale at the
Pitcher-Goff House Gallery and Studio.

The paintings created during the event will become the inaugural paintings of the Pawtucket Collection, an ongoing collection of art that captures the spirit of Pawtucket in artistic medium: painting, photography, sculpture, etc.
