Moving to Basel

Được đăng trong Basel diễn đàn

Hi everyone!
I am Gracie, 23 years old. I will soon move to Basel because I am marrying a Swiss husband. I have had experiences living abroad because I attended university in Japan. But that was college and students time were the best of fun. Im not quite sure how it is if i will continue and end my life in somewhere total strange again.
Any advice on making friends in Basel..please share with me so I can make a decision to move or not to move :((( I am sooo freaked out :(

Oh its so nice of you! im so happy to read this reply. it relieves me so much!! I wont be there until July 2012 because i have to wait for my fiance to finish with his MBA in here.
I hope you are still there by then :( I would love to meet you as well... Its so nice of you :X

I dont know the site u refered to. u know i dont speak any German so I think I will learn it before I go so my life would be easier a little bit once i get there. I understand how you feel when you have to do the job that involves some language you are not good at. I did that before. So my first wish is to find a job that I dont have to use any German...at all...it might be tough but i will try with the links you gave me...

You must be very happy with your husband and friends there :X after all these people are the most important encouragement to us right :)

Ah ok Grace! In this case , no problem you certainly will find a job, because first you are young
and you are graduated, look at Syngenta . Here in Switzerland they prefer young people, of course. I am 53, and my husband 55, and for us it was very difficult.
Now I understand , you , but now I change my words, come and be happy. I was afraid you come to find a husband here, sorry, because there is a lot of girls that do this.
But you must come and try hard to find a good job, to take care of your own life, you understand. My English is poor , and my vocabulary also.
When are you thinking to come? I would like to know you, and maybe help you a little bit
In my job I had to read in German you could not imagine how I suffered, but my friends are vey good and help me a lot, anyway it was very difficult. But I like to live in dangerous lol.
Well if you need anything else I’m here.
Ah! Do you know the site Deutsch Welle? Das ist wunderbar für Deutch lernen, try it.
    Well, bis bald

I graduated university in Japan last year. I met my swiss boyfriend there in Japan, and now He and I returned to my home country (Vietnam) because we want to stick together. He is doing MBA in Vietnam now and we decided that we will go to Switzerland when he is done with MBA, which is next year. We are doing the marriage registering stuff now and will have the ceremony this November.
I studied Business Management in University, I have been working as assistant manager at a Japanese company. But my boyfriend will have more opportunities with jobs if we live in Switzerland, and he can handle life better there. ITs just me where the problem lies....
I will look in the websites u gave me..its so nice of you. At least I have some time to look for a job before I go there....
But do you have to speak swiss german with your job?

    Hi VIctoria,

Thank you so much for your advice. I have been there for a month. I love the city, its so cleaaaaaaaaaaaan but a little sad...maybe i went there in winter. I know they speak Swiss German there...thats why Im freaked out of no jobs and no friends.
Some people say that there are english oriented companies that i might work at, but i dont know if those companies really do exist and im qualified enough to work there.
So how do you deal with ur life there? r u sent to work there? or u r married to a Swiss :X ?

    Hi Gracie
Look you can't decide to move to a stranger country based on a stranger opinion, be careful.
Switzerland and specially Basel, I live here, is a wonderful place to live. I love Basel, full of art, rivers, and parks.
But the people is very difficult to deal, and if you don’t speak German, is not easy to make friends, and find a job. I know because this is my problem, people here speak s Schweizer Deutsch, very different of German.
It could be better if you come once to know and decide for yourself.
Otherwise when the time goes by you will be depressed.
You are right to be freaked out!!!
    Good luck.
