Gfny Portugal 2018
Portugal will receive a race for the first time from the international cycling circuit GFNY on 9 September
2018. The village of Cascais was selected to host the event that will have the departure and arrival of the two
routes (Granfondo of 162 km and Mediofondo with 82 km). The open competition is considered an enormous
challenge of resistance and personal overcoming, in which direct competition with other athletes
stands out. This is the GFNY spirit, an open event for amateurs and professionals that recreates a real professional
road cycling competition, as the slogan Be a Pro For a Day encourages.
The GFNY concept was born in New York in 2011 and quickly expanded to several international cities and
regions. Today is the competition that brings together the largest number of cyclists of different nationalities.
The New York race has brought together athletes from 93 countries. At the premiere of the event in Portugal
are also expected participants from the four corners of the world who promise to tinker with Portuguese
tourism and Cascais in particular.
GFNY Portugal will be a symbiosis of competitive adrenaline with the natural and historical beauty of the
course. After the departure of the Cascais Marina and the first pedals on the Marginal, the route breaks
through the iconic Autodromo do Estoril and heads to Mafra towards the Atlantic Coast with passage through
Ericeira and Azenhas do Mar. The bikes will also face the mystical Serra de Sintra , descend through
Malveira da Serra to Cabo da Roca and set the pace of the windy race at Guincho beach before returning to
the center of Cascais.
It is an ambitious course with almost 2,300 meters of accumulated altimetry in which the participants' gaze
will dazzle in the diversity of landscapes of mountains and sea that will permanently frame the race of 162
km. The smaller course, the Mediofondo with 82 km, will have time control with chip but without competitive
