On November 28th, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, The Saint Andrews Society of San Francisco is proud to present a FREE open-air concert for everyone to enjoy. Come one, come all to Bagpipes, Fiddles, Frolic and Fancies with the first annual Highland Winter Festival!

"This first concert is dedicated to honoring the over 12,000 Scottish Diasporic people in the San Francisco Bay Area, and as a society, we want to expose and educate the public to the various aspects of traditional Scottish performing arts, such as bagpiping, fiddling, Scottish Country and Highland dancing, and Scottish folk songs," explains Alexander J. Sinclair, Vice President of the Saint Andrews Society of San Francisco. "This event has been in planning for the past five years and would not have been possible without the cooperation and support we have received from organizations like the San Francisco Parks and Rec., the Caledonian Club of San Francisco, British Benevolent Society and the Daughters of the British Empire. Bring your family and friends, and enjoy a picnic to some of Scotland's greatest traditional music."

The festival will be at the Music Concourse next to The DeYoung Museum, The California Academy of Science, and The John McLaren Memorial. This concert celebrates Saint Andrew's Day and the impact of our member, Bannockburn born, John McLaren, who was the superintendent of the Golden Gate Park from 1887 - 1943, spearheaded its development from his passion for horticulture he gained while apprenticing at the Edinburgh Royal Botanical Gardens. In time, we hope to grow the concert to be a full-fledged day-long festival with food and vendors, but for now, a modest show with a chance to see everyone in person will be a welcome break from the past year.

Artists: Prince Charles Pipe Band, Silicon Valley Pipe Band, Fret and Fiddle, Peter Daldry
