We are a group of people representing 5 different continents of the world, living in or near Mannheim. We get together for friendship and conversation (be it English, or practicing Deutsch, Spanish or even Hindi!) on the first Thursday of every month at 7:30pm in Cafe Boland's, Mannheim (Q4,1). We all know what it's like moving to a new place and adjusting to another culture, so if you are in that position, you will feel right at home with us! If you're keen to come along then feel free to contact us in advance so we can look out for you when you arrive. We look forward to meeting you!

Hey Luka! I'm soooo sorry it didn't work out with the movies. What a shame that you even waited for us and couldn't get hold of me. I saw there was a missed-call on my phone from an Italian number and I was really confused because I couldn't think who it might be! As I don't know anyone who lives in Italy. I tried calling back, but there is something wrong with my phone and it blocks calls to international numbers. I did not get your text message for this same reason. Sorry I assumed you would have a German number already. Really sorry about that.
I will check with my Husband (he's been away for work this week) if we have any plans already for Saturday and if not, I will get in touch with you and we could meet up. His phone is able to message international numbers.
Also, I really dislike going through this forum for communication so next time, e-mail me: [...].

I tried to reach you by phone, I sent you a sms and then I tried to call you, but without success.
I stayed also for a quarter in front of Cineplex to try to see you or someone else...
So, I will wait for your next answer.
As previously said, maybe I can meet you and someone else before next 7th June if you have the pleasure...
On Sunday probably I will transfer to my new apartment...

1st of all, thanks for your prompt answer.
I am very happy to join your group and meet you and your friends.
1)Thanks for the invitation for the bike ride; unfortunately I still have not a bicicle because I arrived just 10 days ago and I have to go in my new apartment in these days ... So as you can understand I still have to organize my "new life" here :-) (included the purchase of a bicicle).
2)I would be available this evening to see a movie at Cineplex... But this could be possible just if the movie is in English.... I still have to start to learn German language :-(
3)I sent the request to join your FB group... I am waiting for the approval.
So if we will not meet this evening, I will wait for the next Boland's cafè night on June, 7th ....Or if there is the possibility to meet you and anyone other in these days, I am available also just for a coffee or an aperitif... Just to start to meet someone ;-)Thank you again, and see you soon.

Thanks for getting in touch. Would be great to meet you. In fact, if you are free today and you have a bike, then you are welcome to join us for a bike ride at 12noon from Mannheim to Ladenburg (a very old and pretty little town about 12km away). We will meet outside the Mannheim Haubtbahnhof. We will probably also see a movie (the Dictator) tonight, meeting at 7:45pm at Cineplex - P4, 6 (Auf den Planken). This is the movie theatre on the main shopping street, so don't get it confused with the Cinemaxx. Give me a call o 017644463988, if you are interested.Otherwise, the next Boland's cafe night is Thurs 7th June. Feel free to sign up to our facebook group - search for it under "Mannheim's International Cafe Crowd". I post updates there too.
The group is a mix of people from different countries, including Germany and while not everyone comes everytime, I'd say there are about 20 of us all together.

Yes it is that cafe. We always sit downstairs, and I have never noticed the smoke coming from upstairs - and I am usually quite smoke-sensitive too. Maybe you should give it another try. Oh well, up to you.
