Every Friday "Expats in Groningen" (see Facebook group) organize a “after work drinks for expats” in O’Malleys Irish Pub. A informal get together to socialize and share some of the experience about living in the north of Holland! So feel free to join them after work in O’Malleys Irish Pub Oosterstraat 67 in Groningen.

No time for dinner, use the 25% discount voucher on the Expats in Groningen page to get yourself a nice meal!

rongqi Li: I have been to Humanitas but not yet to the coffee event. It just started last month and began with at least 20 people. I'm still learning Dutch; I just need to practice more! :)

    Kar c:
The coffee event on Thursdays at Humanitas is not a course but instead a place to practice Dutch. However, beginning next Tuesday from 9:15am-11:15am, a new Dutch course will be held through Connect International. It lasts for four Tuesdays and costs 40Euro for all four classes.

Besides the RUG, Zernike College and Noorderport College also offer Dutch courses. Depending upon certain situations, the gemeente may pay for some or all of the Dutch courses. When I first came here, I wish someone had told me all of this at once, but I learned over the course of several months what the options for learning Dutch were.

    Hi!

I've been here almost a year, but it doesn't seem that long at all. Where are you taking your Dutch course, and when do you begin? I hope you enjoy them, and I hope we meet soon, too! I also hope whenever someone hears about new chances, it'll be posted here! :)

    Hello,

If Friday mornings aren't a good time, here are four weekly or monthly events I know of to meet new friends:

    1) There's a group called Gezellig Nederlands that meets every Monday night at Cafe Peter Pan after 8:30pm. It's led by a very nice person, Amber, who makes everyone feel welcome. It's a great non-threatening and fun way to practice speaking Dutch with Dutchies and non-Dutchies. (http://www.gezellignederlands.nl/)

    2) Every last Wednesday of the month Cafe de Koffer organizes an international Pub Quiz (in English.) (http://www.dekoffer.nl/?q=quiz)

    3) On Thursday afternoons at Humanitas, there is a "Taalcafe" event between 3pm-5pm, where free coffee, tea, and snacks are available to everyone interested in practicing their Dutch. (www.humanitasgroningen.nl)

    4) Connect International also offers other events (in English) besides the coffee mornings. If you check the website under Events and Activities, you can get a better list for locations all over the north of the Netherlands (Drenthe, Friesland & Groningen provinces.) The next event is a Dog Walk at Stadspark this coming Sunday. (www.connect-int.org)

    Hope this helps!
    Jani

That sounds interesting. Is that the only time a week you meet? I have a hard time joining, since I am always working during Friday mornings....
