‘Blackballed! Spotlights injustice rampant in high school & college sports
Author Faheem Abdullah Kamal shocks and opens eyes with a revealing look at the dark side of high school & college baseballPORTLAND, Oregon. – Baseball is considered the All-American sport. It’s as much a symbol of America as apple pie and the bald eagle, yet even the popularly venerated game is still privy to the prejudice of a bygone era. In “Blackballed,” author Faheem Abdullah Kamal shocks and opens readers’ eyes by revealing the dark, bigoted side of injustice that remains a stigma in college baseball. This book follows the life of a young Muslim of African-Asian descent who enters his first year in College. Soon, things go awry when Adam along with his friend Rico and the other members of the baseball team are harassed and bullied by the head coach — the kind of coach who did not care about his players and merely used them as pawns to further his own ambitions. The situation, though, does not improve. When the coach from the previous school hears of Adam’s transfer, he communicates with Adam’s current pitching coach. With both men harboring an irrational grudge against Adam, his life a living hell. They use his own teammates to carry out horrible acts of racial prejudice that threaten to destroy Adam’s love of baseball. These acts of aggression culminate in Adam being physically assaulted. The head baseball coach goes to jail.
