Hi ALL, I am a scientist hoping to move to Northern Portugal with my family to work on research. It is a beautiful country but there are so many conflicting opinions about how racist Portugal is and how as a Caribbean black family (with three children) may fare there. I know racism exists everywhere in the world and comes in all forms (from subtle ingrained bigotry to out right hatred), but I have also been pleasantly surprised in my global travels when things aren't as bad as expected. My husband and I are fairly thick-skinned but I am concerned about my children's experiences and welfare- I want them to see the beautiful world as I have; but spare them as much of the "ugliness" as I can. Any comments or anecdotes to share on this situation? Thanks.
