Although Hawaii can be very expensive you might look generally if you travel by Hostel or Inexpensive hotel it can be quite reasonable. Recently, I traveled there and spend less 500 Euro counting the flight from Denver Colorado to Honolulu Hawaii.. I would assume the expense would be the flight from Europe. I did a quick search on Kayak.com for May and it appears the prices are around 558 euro for the flight from Frankfurt.. Most of the time I find that flying on a tuesday - thursday keep the price down 20% to 30% compared to Friday - Monday.
Although it is not much help let me know if I can do more.
