It's not about your or my history, those are just the facts. Soviet regime, especially under Stalin was horrible for every soviet socialist republic. Think of the famine in Ukraine and murders in Russia. There's no discussion about that.
The situation might have improved after that, but the fact remained that Estonians wanted their freedom and their own nation which was, based on their cultural background and so on, a valid dream.
About your questions: Where is Estonian roots: I don't really see the point in that. Russia and Russians didn't exist when people settled in Estonia.
From the same view we can also say that we are all Arabic Africans, because that's where humans were first encountered.
