I just touch bottom with my situations days ago. I called to the German Embassy, they advice me to apply for a German visa, which in my case is for travel first time. I saw the application form and the there is different s fields where i can choose the way i want to travel... (work reasons, Tourist, Visit friends etc)
I d better go throw the whole stuff and bite soil, as we say here in Cuba.
